The Balanced Aire Powered Self-Adjusting Convertible Mattress by Drive Medical, is designed in such a way so as to prevent certain health issues for those who need to stay in bed for the long-term.The Balanced Aire comes with two distinct choices: powered and non-powered. The powered system consists of an air bed and a motor. The non-powered option is just the mattress. The mattress itself is made of individual air cells that are contained within a high-density foam perimeter to create a smooth transition from the side rail to the air cell. The mattress is sloped downward toward the foot area as a means to reduce heel pressure -- a common pressure sore area.The powered version comes with a pump that has settings where the the air cells can inflate and deflate to effectively takes pressure off of pressure points while slightly adjusting the body to stimulate circulation. This Drive Medical air mattress also has a cover that envelopes the mattress. It is a fluid-resistant stretch nylon. The mattress comes in multiple width sizes.
